The much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S III has been launched in east Africa’s fastest growing economy, Kenya.
Electronic giant, Samsung said it launched the product to maintain market leadership where it maintains a Smartphone penetration of about 10 percent. Kenya is the second country after South Africa to host the launch of the gadget.
According to Samsung Electronics East Africa business leader, Robert Ngeru, “The Galaxy S III enables seamless and human-centric mobile experience. We are very excited to finally bring this handset to Kenya.”
Describing the features of the phone, Ngeru said “The Samsung Galaxy S III has a smart alert, it knows when you have been away from your phone; a vibrating nudge lets you know that you have missed calls or messages. It also has a front camera which recognizes its users and can be controlled by opening and closing one’s eyes to unlock or lock it.”
The product which was launched recently at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya, is powered by Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich that enhances usability and practicality. The handset comes with a 4.8″ HD Super AMOLED display to enhance the viewing experience. The phone also has mobile payment applications accessible through the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
Its S-Voice is similar to that of iPhone 4S Siri voice assistant which allows users give the phone various voice commands. S-voice comes with location-based information allowing users to ask the phone for directions or location based on recommendations. The Samsung SIII also features a physical specification of 70.6×136.6×8.6 (HxWxD).
Meanwhile, as part of its marketing penetration plan, Samsung is extending its warranty to two years while it unveiled a fully stocked spare part hub in Nairobi to reduce the service centre turnaround time. It is stocked with more than 10 million line items.
The phone can be serviced at any Samsung service centre in Mombasa, Nairobi, Kisumu and Eldoret.
