With 23 percent of the Kenyan population now tuned to mobile banking, other African nations that followed suit are Tanzanians, Uganda, South Africa and Nigeria with 14, 11, 9 and 6 per cent mobile banking penetration respectively.
Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana and Senegal were the other Africa nation considered in the study. Their mobile banking penetration according to TNS ranges from 3,2,2 and 1 percent accordingly.
Although Nigeria takes the fifth position, the TNS report titled ‘Navigating growth in Africa,’ reported that more Nigerians were interested in mobile banking than all the other nine countries considered in the study.
