Chellarams Gets ISO Certification

Posted on 00:49 by Unknown

Nigeria Merchant wholesaler of durable goods, Chellarams Plc, has been awarded the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)’s NIS ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification. With these, the company has now joined the leagues of internationally certified companies in Nigeria.
While presenting the award to the company’s chairman, Director General of SON, Dr Joe Odumodu, who was represented by the Executive Director, Laboratory Service of SON, Louis Njoku, praised the firm for achieving the award on their first trial due to the firm’s commitment to providing quality management system and products required by international standard.
“This is an indication that you are living up to expectation, and have been consistent in keeping the standard which culminated in the approval of the certificate of NIS ISO by SON,” he said.
“By this achievement, this company has joined the lofty class of Quality Management System certified companies in Nigeria. This is a great stride in pursuit of excellence to provide quality products to consumers and this is worthy of commendation by well meaning business community; on this note, I salute you on this milestone achievement.”
He added that “the current version of quality Management System standard NIS ISO 9001:2008, to which this company is being certified, shifted emphasis from conformity to rules and regulations to actual performance output which aims at development of quality management system that is customer focused.”

Odumodu however urged the company not to relent on its oars as the certificate is subjected to withdrawal if the company is found wanting.
“The system has been placed on six monthly surveillance audit to ensure continuing suitability and effectiveness of the implementation of the quality management system. In the cause of the audit exercises, where non-conformities are observed and effectively corrected within specified time frame, the system will retain the certificate. However, the certificate will be withdrawn if the structures in the place for certification break down and necessary actions are not taken on observed non-conformances,” Odumodu cautioned.
Chellarams Chairman, Asiwaju Solomon Onafowokan said on receiving the award however assured SON that it will continue to improve on the standard that gave room for the award.
“For me, this award would serve as the impetus to steer the company towards providing more quality products and services to our customers. In addition, our company’s quality parameter for our food and chemical divisions are of International standard, and we promise to regularly update in order to sustain the confidence reposed in us by SON and ISO. From now on, it is going to be more work; the job has just started. This feat doesn’t come easy, so to sustain it, all hands must be on deck,” he said.

Established in 1923, Chellarams possesses immense experience in manufacturing, distribution, sales and marketing in Nigeria. The Company produces FMCG and fresh produce, ranging from food ingredients, bicycles, vehicles and chemicals.
